Five documentaries circa 1933 to 1961 either directed by, or made under the influence of/and/or direction of John Grierson.

• Industrial Britain (1933 - 21 minutes - B&W) Directed by John Grierson and Robert J. Flaherty. Mr. Grierson set out to make a 'propaganda' film, and he succeeded! This is it, with it's authoritarian voice-over proclaiming the great value of the British industrial worker (heart-felt we're sure). The footage is well shot and very interesting. One of the earliest propaganda films ever made.

• Color Box (1935 - 4 minutes - Color) Directed by Lyn Lye. An experimental film in which abstract images dance across the screen to lively Latin music.

• Granton Trawler (1934 - 11 minutes) Directed by John Grierson, with sound designed by Alberto Cavalcanti. This is a short documentary about fishermen engaged in dragnet fishing off the coast of Scotland made for the Empire Marketing Board by the General Post Office Film Unit and the Crown Film Unit headed by Grierson.

• Private Life of the Gannets (1934 - B&W) Directed by Julian Huxley. A study of the behaviour patterns and lives of a bird colony of gannets situated on Grassholm Island, Wales.

• Seaward, The Great Ships (1961) Directed by Hilary Harris. This is a documentary in which the filmmaker visits the Clyde River in Scotland to observe the men who build ships as they assemble materials, construct and launch a great variety of vessels.
