DESCRIPTION
An Alsatian innkeeper suffers intense pangs of conscience after he murders a rich guest. An inquest is called to which the victim's brother brings a sideshow mesmerist who is supposed to be able to read minds. The innkeeper is also burgomaster, so must conduct the inquest, but cannot resist the torment of his own conscience under the intuitive eye of the mesmerist. Boris Karloff plays the "Mesmerist."
