DESCRIPTION
This volume contains two episodes:
- Episode 1 Two returning champions, having tied several games, compete for ever escalating sums, eventually reaching $4000 per point. With original commercials.
- Episode 2 This is it! The one that started it all. Contestant Herb Stemple blew the whistle shortly after this episode aired, telling how the show was rigged. His opponent, college Professor Charles Van Doren, who's success won him a regular job on "The Today Show," eventually admitted his participation in the scam, lost his job on "Today" and his teaching position as well. With original commercials.
"Series Synopsis: Contestants in isolation booths are offered a range of questions of varying difficulty and point value. The first contestant to score 21 points is the winner. This is 'The' Game show that gave all the others a bad name. The ad agency for the sponsor, Geritol, was disgusted with contestants' bumbling for answers in the first episode, so behind the scenes they gave contestants some of the answers hoping to make the show more interesting and suspenseful, thereby capturing an audience. The movie 'Quiz Show' (1994) and the PBS documentary, 'The Great Quiz Show Scandal' (1990) are based on this show. First aired September 12, 1956 - October 16, 1958."
