" Playhouse 90 aired from October 4, 1956 to September 12, 1961 and is the hallmark by which all other weekly live shows are measured, even to this day. Each week a LIVE 90 minute episode was broadcast, the logistics of production was staggering. Everything was timed so close that if anything went wrong, it would spell disaster. There were very few mistakes. Later in the shows run they started using a new invention to give the crew small time outs in the break-neck schedule, the invention was videotape. But even at the height of videotape use, they never used it more than once a month, all other shows being live."
