A bank cashier with a shrew for a wife escapes into his painting. A money-grabbing gold digger passes his paintings off as hers and achieves some success--until the cashier finds her in the arms of her lover and kills her. The con man lover is blamed for the murder, but the cashier finds himself discharged for embezzling money to support his romance, ending up alone haunted by imagined voices.
