DESCRIPTION

Van Doren and Stimple throw the biggest game in town. In the beginning, there was greed. On Wednesday, December 5, 1956 Charles Van Doren faced off with Herbert Stempel on the quiz show, "Twenty-One." Little did the audience know that the game was fixed. The winner was known to all but the public. Now see the complete show that started the great quiz show scandal of the 1950's. "Twenty-One" hosted by Jack Barry and brought to you by Geritol and Sominex. The complete 30-minute show including original commercials.

"Series Synopsis: Contestants in isolation booths are offered a range of questions of varying difficulty and point value. The first contestant to score 21 points is the winner. This is 'The' Game show that gave all the others a bad name. The ad agency for the sponsor, Geritol, was disgusted with contestants' bumbling for answers in the first episode, so behind the scenes they gave contestants some of the answers hoping to make the show more interesting and suspenseful, thereby capturing an audience. The movie 'Quiz Show' (1994) and the PBS documentary, 'The Great Quiz Show Scandal' (1990) are based on this show. First aired September 12, 1956 - October 16, 1958."
