This is the first network sitcom to star a black female actress. The title character, Beulah, is housekeeper for an inept suburban family who think they run the house, but it's actually Beulah that keeps things running smoothly. The lead was played by three different actresses during it's run: Ethel Waters (1950-1952), Hattie McDaniel (three episodes in 1952) and Louise Beavers (1952-1953). Two episodes. First show with Hattie McDaniel and Ernest Whitman; second show with Ethel Waters, Dooley Wilson and Butterfly McQueen.
